Description:

The basic purpose of this position is to provide high quality scientific guidance, create, design and promote internal and external scientific research and development efforts in R&D. The candidate will manage complex cross-disciplinary projects and act as an internal consultant to programs associated with the areas of expertise.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide expert scientific guidance and contributions that will progress R&D programs to major milestones. Serve as an active voice, challenger and advisor at local and international review meetings.Pursue scientific approaches that reflect broad understanding of the drug discovery process including positioning hypothesis generation.The incumbent will have an established track record of positive contributions on the research portfolio.

  • Conceptualize, promote and champion innovative techniques / ideas to progress BI R&D projects.

  • Establish an international reputation in area of expertise and represent BI as a scientific leader in the field at both internal and external national / international conferences, meetings and organizations. Publish regularly on specific topics associated with drug discovery and development.

  • Provide expert internal scientific review as requested by management on R&D portfolio projects, technology investments and licensing opportunities.

  • Manage personnel to achieve Research & Development goals; Develop role as key scientific mentor and teacher; Contribute / facilitate departmental recruiting efforts.

  • Through knowledge gained from participation in external industry working groups / professional societies, bring knowledge of external best practices to bear on local projects.

  • Consult with local and global scientific leaders regarding strategic drug discovery and development issues.

  • Comply with all applicable regulations; Ensure that all work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintain proper records in accordance with SOP's and policies.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M. or equivalent, from an accredited institution, with greater than seven (7) years’ experience in immunology research at the academic or industry level

  • Four (4) to six (6) years leadership experience

  • Clear achievement and recognition within the internal and external scientific community and clear contribution over the years of consistent flow of creative research (with a generally accepted likelihood of industrial / commercial application)

  • Demonstrated ability to offer scientific insight into projects and application of novel and creative approaches to solving scientific problems

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, motivate, teach, organize and lead a scientific staff

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people internally and externally at all levels of the organization.

  • Deep experience in cellular and in vivo immunology techniques and approaches

  • Expertise in molecular biology and / or flow cytometry

  • Expertise in autoimmune and auto inflammatory diseases such as but not limited to inflammatory bowel disease, systemic lupus erythematosus / lupus nephritis, systemic sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis / spodyloarthritis

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
