Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking an innovative and ambitious Senior Scientist/ Principal Scientist,Pre-Formulation to join our Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility .

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Scientist/ Principal Scientist who will conduct a diverse set of biophysical assays related to the development of protein biotherapeutics.

As a Scientist, you will be primarily responsible for executing, analyzing, and interpreting assays designed to evaluate inherent protein therapeutic attributes and physical and chemical stability under different conditions. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with creative problem solving skills; a quick learner readily capable of managing automated and non-automated protein workflows for several projects and effectively collaborating across different functional areas to enhance project knowledge.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform stage appropriate pre-formulationscreening, predominantly automated biophysical assays to characterize proteinattributes and solution behavior, throughout Discovery campaigns.

  • Process and compile data;communicate results in a clear and timely manner.

  • Refine analytical methods throughtargeted DOEs, develop control strategies.

  • Enhance data quality, consistency,and throughput with processing, analysis, and visualization scripts; work withIT to design, build, and maintain data management solutions.

  • Develop novel methodologies and evaluatenew technologies to improve the overall pre-formulation strategy and value.

  • Contribute to broader research goalsin areas related to biophysical chemistry to develop a better understanding ofprotein structure, stability, and function; publish work in peer-reviewedjournals.

  • Provide biophysical characterizationtraining and support for other scientists across Biotherapeutics Discovery, asnecessary.

  • Comply with all applicableregulations, performing all work in a safe manner; maintain proper records inaccordance with SOP’s and policies.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by managerin a timely manner.

Experience, Skills & Abilities:

  • Multiple yearsof experience applying several protein biophysical techniques in the context ofbiotherapeutic discovery and/or development, including DOE studies within thecontext of analytical method, formulation, or process development.

  • Experience in statisticaland DOE software (JMP, R, Minitab) is required; experience with data analysis softwareand/or modern computer programming languages (MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, SQL,or Java) is highly desired.

  • Strong grasp ofphysical chemical/thermodynamic principles underpinning protein structure andstability; biotherapeutic quality attributes, CMC requirements, QbD principles.

  • Experience withlab automation is required; in-depth knowledge (programming, troubleshooting) ispreferred.

  • Previous workin protein expression and purification is beneficial.

  • Creativeproblem solving with a high level of initiative and ability to workindependently as well as collaboratively.

  • Open to newapproaches; ability to think and plan strategically as well as tactically.

Senior Scientist Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree in biophysics, orhighly related field, with 2+ years of laboratory experience in protein researchor biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Extensive hands-on experience withbiologics/protein reagents and expertise in performing several different spectroscopic,electrophoretic, calorimetric, or other advanced protein biophysical techniques.

  • Good record-keeping andorganizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Outstanding writing, presenting, andcommunicating skills.

Principal Scientist Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree in biophysics, orhighly related field, with 5+ years of laboratory experience in protein researchor biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Extensive hands-on experience withbiologics/protein reagents and expertise in performing several differentspectroscopic, electrophoretic, calorimetric, or other advanced proteinbiophysical techniques.

  • Good record-keeping andorganizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Outstanding writing, presenting, andcommunicating skills.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United Stateswithout restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offerphysical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
