Provides organizational, technological, and scientific leadership in the expression process for BI's global New Biological Entity (NBE) pipeline. Manages a cross-functional group encompassing V-gene recovery and production technologies from mammalian and microbial systems to generate and supply high-quality protein material supply from preLO to up to SoPD, ensuring capability at industry standard or industry-leading level. Coordinates large-scale bioreactor capacity to supply IDSS material from humanized lead candidates for in vivo studies and manufacturability assessment in Research in harmonization with Biopharma processes. Contributes to R&D discovery research by organizing and managing scientific and technical activities based on an understanding of the NBE process. Lead contact for Biopharmaceuticals organization to ensure smooth transfer of projects at transition phase through transparent forecasting, information transfer and consulting from hand-over to entry into Development. Develops and mentors scientists in a technical area within NBE Discovery. Initiates and defends technology or project concepts to senior management. Supervises technology teams, sponsors CPI initiatives and fosters collaborative interactions across disciplines and within the industry to further scientific knowledge and continuous improvements of BI’s NBE capabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide organizational, scientific and technical leadership for therapeutic antibody production from V-gene recovery in high-throughput to multi-liter fermentations to support NBE pipeline success.
Assist in defining departmental strategy with respect to NBE research goals.
Demonstrates strategic vision and scientific expertise in shaping department strategic plans
Effectively participates in discovery teams; Uses breadth of experience to focus teams on important issues outside of their immediate scope;
Delivers project updates and strategic recommendations to senior level management
Coordinates all postLO projects at transition to Biopharmaceuticals organizations internationally. Responsible for forecasting, information transfer and project planning at entry to early development.
Responsible for communication with global Biopharmaceuticals organization; Key contact to improve collaboration and alignment
Identification, implementation, and resourcing of new technologies / external collaborations in support of research goals; Responsibility for integration with technology providers. Participation on licensing and technology evaluation teams
Manages and develops personnel to achieve Research goals; contributes/facilitates departmental recruiting efforts
Comply with all applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
Requires a PhD degree plus seven (7) years related industry experience or equivalent in addition to experience in lab management.
Requires an advanced knowledge of a technology employed in the skill center such as protein engineering, lead generation and associated immunology, protein expression and purification, analytical biophysics of proteins, advanced mass spectrometry.
Requires supervision and mentoring of junior staff within that technology.
Four (4) to six years leadership and project management experience
Excellent written and oral presentation skills
Needs experience in one or more of the skills listed above, along with knowledge of the skill center process and the ability to apply those skills to the process.
Requires international travel and collaboration.
Requires personnel management of experienced professionals.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
Must be 18 years of age or older
