Scientist III/IV -Molecular Biologist - Cardiometabolic

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a driven and skilled Molecular Biologist to join our Cardio-Metabolic Diseases Research department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility.

Description:

The successful candidate is a skilled scientist with strong expertise in classical and novel molecular biology techniques and who is also very familiar with automation systems to assist with laboratory workflows.

The scientist will work on supporting advancement of novel therapeutic concepts in the field of cardio-metabolic diseases including target validation, mechanistic and functional assay development and molecule evaluation. This position will support ongoing efforts to automate manual workflows and processes onto a semi-automated/fully automated robotics platform.

Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Conducts scientific research using knowledge of the field ofmolecular biology , interprets experimental results and integrates them withproject objectives

  • Designs, plans, executesand troubleshoots experiments that would support novel therapeutic conceptsleveraging molecular biology methodologies (nucleic acid extraction, PCR,sequencing etc.)

  • Responsible fortechnical leadership of automation systems relevant to molecular techniques

  • Proposes and contributesto the incorporation of new molecular technologies or best practices to enhancea specific scientific or technical area

  • Performs data analysisfor projects and proven experience in managing interaction with computationalbiologist as analytical complexity increases

  • Collaborates with peersand cross functional teams and Provide technical guidance in areas of expertise

  • Effectively organizesand communicate the results and findings internally within and acrossdepartments as well as externally

Required Skills andAbilities:

  • Hands on experience with nucleic acid samplepreparation technologies (e.g. primer design, PCR optimization etc.) fromhuman blood products, tissue and cell lines – FFPE preparations a plus

  • Proven molecular biology experience in application fortechnologies and related operational software such as qPCR, ddPCR™, NextGeneration Sequencing (Illumina® HiSeq, NextSeq) – single cellmicrofluidic platforms (Fluidigm, 10x Genomics) a plus

  • Experience in running automation and high throughputinstrumentation including liquid handlers (Beckman Biomek) and librarypreparations

  • Knowledge in plasmid construct design, agarose gelelectrophoresis, DNA purification, DNA sequencing and sequence analysis

  • Familiarity with basic data analysis and visualizationsoftware

  • Agility in prioritizing efforts and ability tomulti-task to deliver on commitments

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborativeenvironment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail

Desired Skills andAbilities:

  • Familiarity with generating AAV, lentiviral, minicircleand other gene delivery vectors

  • Ability to manipulate cells using plasmid and siRNAtransfection and viral transduction

  • Experience with developing new methods for automationequipment

  • Ability to work with Laboratory Information ManagementSystem (LIMS)

Scientist IIIRequirements:

  • Master’s Degree with 3+ years experience in relatedscientific discipline or Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years experience inrelated scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field

  • Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment withindependence

  • Ability to draft technical reports

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills

  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data andinterpretation thereof

  • Proven problem solving ability

  • Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence

  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicableregulations

Scientist IVRequirements:

  • Master’s Degree with 6+ years experience in relatedscientific discipline or Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years experience inrelated scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field

  • Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment withindependence

  • Ability to draft technical reports

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills

  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data andinterpretation thereof
