Description:

The Immunology & Respiratory Department is seeking a talented and innovative Scientist III/IV to join our Drug Concept Discovery research team in Ridgefield, CT. The successful candidate will in-depth knowledge of rodent in vivo techniques, and knowledge of the regulatory & oversight requirements to ethically conduct research in living animals. The role also necessitates knowledge of general pharmacology principles, basic immunology, and the drug-discovery process.

This position is accountable to provide scientific support dedicated to elucidating the relationships between pharmacokinetics (PK) and target engagement (TE), and the impact on pharmacodynamics (PD) for new therapeutic concepts to improve patient’s lives within the Immunology and Respiratory TA, Ridgefield. Utilizes knowledge of pharmacology principles, in vivo expertise and developed problem-solving skills to independently design, from internal examples and/or literature, and execute high quality rodent PK/PD/TE experiments. Works collaboratively with other in-vivo scientists for the execution of PK/PD/TE experiments, and provides assistance to other in-vivo scientists for the completion of experiments from I&R in vivo laboratories, when necessary. Can perform routine mathematical/statistical analysis, and communicate experimental results to an audience within I&R and to multi-disciplined project teams in both verbal and written formats. Works to continuously improve I&R/Ridgefield/BI culture by participating in initiatives, training and committees which promote science, technology, people and compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of principles of pharmacology and immunology

  • Expertise in rodent in vivo skills, knowledgeable of IACUC/protocol process

  • Keeps abreast of literature

  • Designs experiments independently, based on project-specific hypotheses

  • Independently organizes study materials, logistics & personnel

  • Works collaboratively with other in vivo scientists and across other disciplines as part of a project team

  • Maintains high quality records

  • Compliance with all training, safety, laboratory and animal welfare policies & regulations

  • Performs routine mathematical/statistical analysis

  • Is a subject matter expert for appropriate scientific skills; mentors junior scientists when necessary

  • Actively participates in initiatives and committees outside of the laboratory setting

  • Compiles & presents clear summary of experimental goals in both written & oral formatInitiates and completes routine procedures in an independent and efficient manner; Troubleshoots effectively and solves scientific problems independently; Operates lab equipment and is independently responsible for maintenance

  • Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision

  • Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps abreast of literature in own field

  • Proposes new experiments/technologies based on science as well as overall understanding of drug discovery/development process; Demonstrates expertise in field and contributes to training technicians and junior level scientists

  • Effectively communicates and defends own work in the context of team and department goals both orally and in writing

  • Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics; Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports; Provide input for scientific reports

  • Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

Scientist II Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, or related field with 3+ years experience conducting rodent in vivo research in a pharmaceutical or biotech environmentor in related scientific discipline or Master's in related scientific discipline conducting rodent in vivo research in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment or equivalent experience in related field

  • Requires excellent communication, interpersonal & organizational skills;

  • Requires ability to operate independently.

  • Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence

  • Ability to draft technical reports

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills

  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof

  • Proven problem solving ability

  • Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence

  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Scientist III Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, or related field with 3+ years experience conducting rodent in vivo research in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment or in related scientific discipline or Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years experience in related scientific discipline conducting rodent in vivo research in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment or equivalent experience in related field

  • Requires excellent communication, interpersonal & organizational skills;

  • Requires ability to operate independently.

  • Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence

  • Ability to draft technical reports

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills

  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof

  • Proven problem solving ability

  • Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence

  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Scientist I/IV Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, or related field with 6+ years experience conducting rodent in vivo research in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment or in related scientific discipline or Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years experience in related scientific discipline conducting rodent in vivo research in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment or equivalent experience in related field

  • Requires excellent communication, interpersonal & organizational skills;

  • Requires ability to operate independently.

  • Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence

  • Ability to draft technical reports

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills

  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof

  • Proven problem solving ability

  • Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence

  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
