Scientist III/IV,Drug Concept Discovery, Immunology & Respiratory


The Immunology & Respiratory Department is seeking a talented and innovative Scientist III/IV to join our DrugConcept Discovery research team in Ridgefield, CT. The successful candidate will collaborate with a passionate and energetic team of scientists striving to build a transformative portfolio of innovative small molecule and biologics based therapeutics.

Performs routine lab duties without supervision. Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision. Assists in supervising/training technicians and junior scientist. Performs all work in conformance with applicable regulations. Performs all work in a safe manner. The primary scope of responsibility is within the immediate discipline and secondarily within a multi-disciplinary environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and completes routine invitro molecular, cellular and pharmacology assays in an independentefficient manner including effective troubleshooting and operation andmaintenance of lab equipment

  • Proposes, designs and executesnon-routine drug concept discovery biology experiments based onindependent literature analyses with minimal supervision

  • Proposes new experiments andtechnology advancements based on expertise in field and overallunderstanding of drug discovery/development process

  • Independently applies basicscientific knowledge, attends internal and external scientific meetingsand keeps abreast of relevant scientific literature to support work

  • Contributes to training of colleagues,independently operates lab equipment and takes responsibility for properlab instrumentation usage and maintenance

  • Effectively communicates anddefends own work at team meetings(orally and in writing)

  • Reports and treats data with a highlevel of integrity and ethics, including writing clear protocols, procedures,and technical reports.

  • Maintains data notebooks accordingto company guidelines and provides input for departmental scientificreports and audits

  • Complies with applicableregulations, performing all work in a safe manner and maintains properrecords in accordance with SOPs and policies

  • Supports and embraces diversityas an employee and representative of BIPI

Scientist III Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from anaccredited institution in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology,or related discipline with at least 3+ years relevant lab researchexperience or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution inImmunology, Cell Biology,Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related discipline with 7+ years relevantlab research experience.

ScientistIV Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from anaccredited institution in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology,or related discipline with at least 6+ years relevant lab researchexperience or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution inImmunology, Cell Biology,Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related discipline with 10+ years relevantlab research experience.


  • Core competencies requiredinclude solid knowledge in cellular and molecular biology with expertise inin vitro pharmacology, immunology and advance cell co-culture models.

  • Proficient with mammalian cell culturetechniques; experience establishing complex co-culture systems andinterrogating pathways in cell lines and primary human/rodent immune,epithelial and stromal cells (2D and 3D-culture cell-based assays, mixed-cellco-culture and/or organoid models) is highly desired.

  • Hands on experience with DNAtransfection and/or retroviral transduction methods for in vitro mammaliancell culture models.

  • Proficient with cellular modelsto study phagocytosis/efferocytosis and associated pathways is a plus.

  • Solid hands-on experienceapplying multicolor flow cytometry and related analytical techniques forprimary cell isolation and to phenotypically characterize cell responses(intracellular cytokines & phosphoprotein staining, cell viability& proliferation).

  • Demonstrated experience inDNA/RNA isolation, qRT-PCR/TaqMan (single and multiplex analytes), Nanostringand/or RNAseq.

  • Adept at designing anddeveloping sophisticated cell-based assays with minimal supervision.

  • Highly skilled at applyingstate-of-the-art molecular/cell biological, biochemical and immunologicalmethods to measure pre-defined endpoints such as: cytokine and/or matrixproduction, cell migration, proliferation, apoptosis, cytotoxicity,phagocytosis, reporter gene activities, and/or molecular signaltransduction pathways in response to stimuli or agonists.

  • Hands on experience with adiverse set of molecular and cell biology approaches (e.g. Incucyte, ELISA,MesoScale, In-Cell ELISA, FACS, ImageStream, TaqMan, Luminex, SDS PAGE/immunoblotting).

  • Good lab hygiene and organizationskills; excellent communication skills and impactful problem solvingabilities.

  • Experience outsourcing basicmolecular biology and reagent production activities.

  • Working knowledge of computersoftware including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and additional scientificanalysis software (e.g. SpotFire, Prizm GraphPad, FloJo XL-Fit orcomparable scientific, bioinformatics or statistical data applications).

  • Passionate about science andadept in a fast-paced, nimble, team-based work setting.

  • Supplemental technical coursesin area of expertise

  • Ability to operate laboratoryequipment with independence

  • Ability to draft technicalreports

  • Demonstrate written and verbalcommunication skills

  • Concise and accurate reportingof technical data and interpretation thereof

  • Proven problem solving ability

  • Able to act for supervisor inhis/her absence

  • Appropriate level ofunderstanding of applicable regulations

  • Must be willing totake a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
