Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a highly motivated Scientist II/III to join the Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT.

As a Scientist II/III, you will be responsible for conducting in vivo studies in laboratory animals to generate pharmacokinetic data. Data from these animal studies, typically in rodents, contribute to an assessment of the performance of oral and intravenous dosing formulations or provide an assessment of the systemic exposure of drug metabolites. Prior experience handling laboratory animals and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory requirements for conducting such studies is required. You will also be responsible for conducting in vitro studies to evaluate the interaction of drugs and experimental compounds with drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters. In addition to conducting experiments, you will be expected to evaluate and interpret the data generated and contribute toward scientific advancement in the field of DMPK. Active and productive collaboration, internally and externally, with other DMPK scientists will also be expected.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pharmacokinetic studies in rodents, including handling and maintenance of rodent colonies. Demonstrate technical proficiency in dosing, sample collection, and processing of samples from in vivo studies. Interpret and report data from in vivo studies.

  • Ensure the highest level of standards is maintained for studies involving experimental animals. Author, review, and renew experimental protocols; participate in activities related to Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) requirements and guidelines.

  • Conduct, interpret, and report data from routine in vitro studies using a variety of cellular and subcellular systems such as microsomes and hepatocytes.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of new DMPK-relevant technologies.

  • Comply with applicable regulations, perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, and maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and corporate policies.

  • Initiates and completes routine procedures in an independent and efficient manner, with minimal supervision; Independently operates and is responsible for lab equipment; Troubleshoots effectively

  • Demonstrates technical ability to assist in the design and execution of non-routine experiments with supervision

  • Applies basic scientific principles with minimal guidance; Performs literature searches and extracts relevant information from published protocols

  • Demonstrates the ability to interpret outcome of experiments and to propose appropriate follow-up

  • Communicates own work effectively orally and in writing; Contributes to writing protocols, procedures, and technical reports; provide input for scientific reports

  • Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics

Scientist II Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, or other relevant field with 3+ years experience in related scientific discipline; or Master’s Degree in related scientific discipline; or equivalent experience in related field

  • Laboratory experience should include familiarity with studies involving laboratory animals and in vitro cell-based assays.

  • Familiarity with routine LC-MS/MS instrumentation and method development would be beneficial, including the ability to solve assay development challenges.

  • Familiarity with enzyme kinetics and/or pharmacokinetics is considered beneficial.

  • Experience with the safe and appropriate use of radioactivity for in vivo and in vitro studies is preferred.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of field

  • Applies knowledge of basic theory and scientific principles

  • Able to draft portions of technical reports

  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and information

  • Ability to troubleshoot

  • Written and verbal communication skills

  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Scientist III Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with three-plus (3+) years of experience in related scientific discipline, OR Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with seven-plus (7+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field

  • Laboratory experience should include familiarity with studies involving laboratory animals and in vitro cell-based assays.

  • Familiarity with routine LC-MS/MS instrumentation and method development would be beneficial, including the ability to solve assay development challenges.

  • Familiarity with enzyme kinetics and/or pharmacokinetics is considered beneficial.

  • Experience with the safe and appropriate use of radioactivity for in vivo and in vitro studies is preferred.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of field

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
