Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and highly motivated BioanalyticalScientist II/III to join the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry (BAMS) group in Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. The BAMS Group is a technical leader in the field of bioanalysis of protein drugs following proteolytic by LCMS using surrogate peptides (PrD-LCMS). We are currently engaged in developing, validating and applying state-of-the-art bioanalytical methods for nonclinical and clinical studies of small molecule and protein drugs using LCMS instruments.

The main responsibilities of this position include: method development, validation and troubleshooting of GLP/GCP bioanalytical LCMS methods; investigation and implementation of new technologies and training/mentoring of junior scientists. In addition, performance of work must be in conformance with applicable regulations and in a safe manner. The successful candidate for this position should have a strong background in GLP/GCP small molecule LCMS bioanalysis. Additional experiences and knowledge in LCMS bioanalysis of protein drugs via surrogate peptides following proteolytic digestion and/or immunoassays is a plus.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and executenon-GLP, non-GCP method development experiments and sample analysis using LCMSwith minimum supervision. Perform routine procedures independently andnon-routine procedures with some supervision.

  • Assume GLP and GCPbioanalytical responsibility for development drug candidates under supervision.This encompasses bioanalytical development, method validation, sample analysis,reporting bioanalytical data and responding to auditing by QA and FDA. Theseskills apply to both small molecule LCMS bioanalysis and LCMS bioanalysis ofproteins using both direct digestion and immunocapture techniques.

  • Perform all work inconformance with applicable regulations (GCP practices, 21 CFR Part 58, andSOPs) and perform all work in a safe manner.

  • Effectivelycommunicate and defend own work at internal meetings, orally and in writing, inthe context of the team goals.

  • Perform data analysis and report writing with a highlevel of integrity and ethics.

  • Participate in cross departmental project teams whenassigned.

  • Propose, gainsupport for and implement ideas from individual's knowledge of science andtechnology and understanding of drug discovery/development process.

  • Propose, evaluate,and implement new technologies; independently apply basic scientificprinciples, perform literature searches, attend scientific meetings, and keepabreast of literature in own field and in regulatory aspects of GLPs and GCPs,particularly for the bioanalytical disciplines.

  • Demonstrate a solidlevel of technical proficiency and trains technicians/junior scientists asappropriate. Keep up-to-date knowledge on applicable regulatory guidelinesrelating to small molecules and proteins by LCMS.

Scientist II Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree with 0 - 2 years’ experience orBachelor’s Degree with 3+ years’ experience in related scientificdiscipline, with education background in chemistry, biochemistry orbiology.

  • Pharmaceutical, biotechnology or CRO experience ishighly desirable.

  • Experiencein developing, troubleshooting, and validating LCMS bioanalytical methods. Experiencein LCMS protein assay and immunoassay is a plus.

  • Experience working in a GLP/GCPenvironment.

  • Proven problem solving ability.

  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipmentwith some supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills andability to draft technical reports.

  • Proficiency with computers and data analysis software.

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a highlycollaborative environment.

Scientist III Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree with 3+ years’ experience or Bachelor’sDegree with 7+ years’ experience in related scientific discipline, witheducation background in chemistry, biochemistry or biology.

  • Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology Company or CRO experienceis highly desirable.

  • Proficient in developing, troubleshooting, andvalidating (according to regulatory requirements) LCMS bioanalytical assaymethods; experience in LCMS protein assay and immunoassay is a plus.

  • Experience working in a GLP/GCP environment is highlydesirable.

  • Experience in the use of laboratory automationequipment is highly desirable.

  • Proven problem solving ability.

  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipmentwith independence.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills andability to draft technical reports.

  • Proficiency with computers and data analysis software.

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a highlycollaborative environment.
