Post Doc – Human Genetics

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a driven and innovative Postdoctoral Scientist in Quantitative Genetics and Genomics to join our Cardio-Metabolic Disease Research department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility.

As a Postdoctoral Scientist, you will be focusing your research on understanding the molecular bases of disease progression in the field of Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and steatohepatitis (NASH). Your research project is part of a collaborative effort involving academic institutions as well as industrial partners and you will be driving research in the areas of genetics, functional genomics and systems biology from a computational perspective by identifying or developing appropriate tools and methods to identify novel therapeutic opportunities. A key focus will be to identify novel genes and provide supporting evidence for causality, mechanistic involvement in tissue and druggability perspective. You will leverage not only data generated by the collaboration, but also additional internally available datasets, publicly available cohorts as well as data from in-vitro and in-vivo model systems. You will be performing analyses that comprehensively model genetic background information with single-cell level expression data from different tissues. As a postdoctoral scientist you will be expected to independently conduct research and publish findings in scientific journals.

The ideal candidate is a data scientist with research interest and familiarity in integrating and interpreting the results of analyses coming from large and diverse sources including genetic, bulk and single cell expression and clinical data.

Duties &Responsibilities

  • Perform genetic analysis (traitassociations, variant calling, eQTL, mQTL etc.) and transcriptomicanalysis (RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, ASE etc.)

  • Independently conduct a researchproject and effectively communicate the results and findings internallyand externally

  • Perform network analysis (e.g.WGCNA, master regulators etc.)

  • Perform/develop integrative multi-omcis scale data analyses

  • Identify novel genes and pathwaysand develop a testable therapeutic concept

  • Work in a collaborative researchenvironment

Desired Experience,Skills and Abilities:

· Proven experience in conducting and publishing creative and innovative research projects

  • Strong knowledge of geneticsrelated analyses (GWAS, m/eQTL, PrediXcan etc.)

  • Strong experience in quantitativegenomics (bulk and single cell gene expression, network analysis)

  • Experience with analyticallyintegrating and interpreting results from different data sources (e.g.GEO, ArrayExpress, GWAS Catalogue, GTEx etc.)

  • Good knowledge of biology andmolecular basis of pathology and familiar with methodologies forexperimental validation

  • Fluent in statistical analysis (Rpreferred)

  • Familiar with analysis ofepigenetic modifications (methylation, ATAC-seq etc.)

  • Familiar with command line tools (e.g.bash or perl etc.) and genetic relevant packages (plink, GATK etc.)

  • Familiar with cluster computing

Requirements

  • PhD degree in genetics, systemsbiology or related quantitative biology disciplines with no more than 3years of postdoctoral experience

  • Good written and oral communicationskills
