Description:

The IT Business Consultant I provides expert IT consultancy and operational support to an international group of scientists in the global Computational Biology / Bioinformatics groups within the departments Research and Translational Medicine. In addition, the IT Business Consultant I develops program management and domain architecture capabilities. Through ongoing consultation with business clients, the IT Business Consultant I identifies business needs, establishes scope and requirements, and may provide innovative recommendations for process changes and/or technology-enabled solutions. The IT Business Consultant I leads and manages IT projects from beginning to end, which includes defining project scope and deliverables that support Business goals and strategies. The IT Business Consultant I is responsible for engaging clients in analyzing, prioritizing and governing demand for IT services; accountable for all such IT services; and responsible for insuring that projects realize their intended Business benefits. Successful projects are expected to contribute to the overall performance of the Business.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert IT consultancy and operational support to an international group of scientists in the global Computational Biology / Bioinformatics groups within the departments Research and Translational Medicine.

  • Take over global IT System Lead responsibilities for existing IT solutions including managing the entire system lifecycle of the solutions.

  • Plan, design and build IT solutions to address needs in the fields of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

  • Install and administer services and application systems on Linux, Windows Servers and in Amazon Cloud environments

  • Prepare and maintain proper System Life Cycle documentation to ensure reliable support for our systems

  • Actively collaborate with service teams in IT infrastructure (High Performance Computing, Networking, Data Center Operation, etc.) and liaise with external vendors for stable support and maintenance of our IT system landscape.

IT Business Consultant I Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited institution required with a focus in Information Technology or Science preferred

  • Progressive IT and business experience of up to 5 years is preferred.

  • Strong professional experience in Linux system administrationin a networked environment is mandatory

  • Demonstrated experience in working with cloud technologies and services, especially with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Solid experience in administrating applications on Microsoft Windows Server and Citrix virtualized environments

  • Applied skills in scripting languages (e.g. Shell, Python, Perl) and automation technologies (Puppet, GIT, EasyBuild, Environment Modules, etc. ) is required

  • Knowledge of Hadoop/Spark platform, data model or format such as ARFF, Parquet, ADAM to support large genomics data is desirable.

  • Solid technical knowledge in one or more of the following topics is an asset:

  • High Performance Computing environments

  • Container technologies, e.g. Docker, Openshift.

  • Programming skills in higher level languages and programming frameworks (e.g. Java, C++, JavaScript, NodeJS, etc.)

  • Database technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, NSQL, GraphDB, and RDF etc.)

  • Experience in supporting and collaborating with an international group of scientists is beneficial.

  • Acting proactively with a strong sense of responsibility

  • Strong communication skills in English with a passion for working in a virtual, international and multicultural environment.

IT Business Consultant II Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited institution required with a focus in Information Technology or Science preferred

  • Progressive IT and business experience of 2-7 years is preferred.

  • Strong professional experience in Linux system administrationin a networked environment is mandatory

  • Demonstrated experience in working with cloud technologies and services, especially with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
