Provide strong entrepreneurial and organizational leadership for the Global I&R Diseases Research Therapeutic Area. Set and direct implementation of strategic and tactical priorities to advance a highly innovative exploratory and pre-LO portfolio linked to core Target Product Profiles for the autoimmunity and inflammation pipeline. Accountable for steering early drug concept-human disease linkages, defining tool needs to support drug concept research and delivering screening and primary cell assays. Govern the early I&R portfolio as Co-Chair of the Exploratory Research Portfolio Committee. Establish Global I&R priorities and coordinate their execution as member of Global Joint I&R Leadership Team. Set site operations objectives as member of Site Leadership Committee. Drive strong performance culture, including developing and retaining talent of the Drug Concept Discovery team.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Set and direct implementation of strategic and tactical objectives to achieve I&R portfolio deliverables in a timely manner. Accountable for ensuring delivery and execution of new drug concepts and initial RTP project criteria, delivery of assays to support molecular and phenotypic screening, and identification of early tool needs, through leadership of the Drug Concept Discovery team, Co-Chairing the Exploratory I&R Research Portfolio Committee, and through partnership and influencing of local and global Research partner disciplines. Responsible for all relevant documentation to support portfolio deliverables.
Accountable as member of Global Joint I&R Leadership Team for establishing and progressing productivity deliverables and innovation objectives, driving portfolio innovation and success, maintaining a high performance culture, ensuring seamless intradepartmental communication and collaboration, and effectively managing departmental budget and operations with scope of responsibility.
Represent Therapeutic Area in discussions with stakeholders and business partners to successfully influence and advance I&R business priorities and objectives.
Serve on Site Leadership Committee to define local strategies, productivity objectives and resource allocations to achieve site productivity and culture goals.
Capable of independently assuming project and licensing evaluation leadership roles to define and achieve team objectives and successfully generate organizational alignment in a timely manner, while simultaneously setting and directing the portfolio priorities described above.
Develop and manage a network of innovative external scientific partnerships to identify and prioritize first-in-class therapeutic concepts, establish project value propositions and implement scientific differentiation and pharmacology studies to support portfolio decision-making. Build a strong reputation for BI in the external community by publishing, actively participating and presenting at scientific conferences.
Actively participate in BI internal scientific and strategic meetings, scientific advisory board meetings and experts’ conferences by presenting and critically evaluating the science and contributing to the evaluation of projects.
Drive strong performance of group by recruiting, retaining and developing a high quality staff. Effectively drive high performance culture by direct and indirect reports.
Ensure compliance with all required training, safety, regulatory, HR, laboratory notebook, and intellectual property activities and corporate policies.
Ph.D. or M.D. Degree or equivalent with at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience and ten plus (10+) years’ experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Proven track record in setting strategic and tactical direction and priorities in matrix environments to lead successful NBE and NCE drug discovery efforts, at the project and line management level.
Strong knowledge of the pathogenesis of immunology-mediated diseases and the application of cellular, molecular and in vivo technologies and models to drive program decisions, including those related to supporting value propositions, Research Target Profiles and biomarker discovery.
Strong leadership abilities for project teams and line management responsibilities, and an ability to bring together diverse skill sets to form a cohesive team.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including cross-functional collaborative and communication skills.
Proactive identification of critical issues.
Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment to accelerate strategic and project decision-making and evidence for successful cross-disciplinary stakeholder negotiation to drive portfolio and project results.
Proven track record of leading people and teams to achieve challenging objectives which address key business priorities.
More than six (6) years of leadership and project management experience.
Management of all levels of scientists as required.
Demonstrated ability to bring together diverse skill sets to form a cohesive team, and strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to prepare technical reports, publications and oral presentations.
Ability to assist VP in all aspects of departmental operations. Drug discovery experience with both NBE and NCE projects.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
