Responsible for performing the detailed production planning and purchasing functions within the Supply Chain team and is accountable for all supply management activities for multiple clinical and/or commercial products.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs buying duties based upon the production plan. Maintains appropriate level of raw material inventory for assigned products/materials. Follow-up, track and expedite deliveries as required.

  • Enters and maintains the integrity of Material Resource Planning (MRP) / Material Master Data

  • Develops Bills of Materials (BOM) in partnership with Process Science, Manufacturing and Quality

  • Works with cross functional teams including Project Management, Process Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Logistics and our customers to develop and implement robust Supply Chain Management Plans

  • Identifies opportunities for inventory reduction and reduces waste/scrap

  • Participates in Project Team meetings to update the teams on all Supply Chain Management related topics

  • Coordinates efforts with Purchasing and/or Quality for resolution of supplier issues

  • Processes material returns, works with accounting to resolve payment issues, assists in identifying and resolving inventory discrepancies

  • Monitors and reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) as outlined by the client or department

  • Communicates to management and the project teams significant material and/or supplier problems that may impact the supply chain. Resolves any discrepancies with quantity, delivery, cost and quality proactively and reactively. Plans and prioritizes deliveries. Coordinates with operations to expedite as required to support production.


  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years buying/planning experience preferably in a pharmaceutical environment with a Bachelor's of Science degree or equivalent experiece

  • In lieu of five (5) years minimum experience, three (3) years direct experience may be considered with a Master's of Science degree.

  • Requires experience utilizing a MRP system (highly prefer SAP) to plan, order, cost, track materials

  • Must have experience utilizing Advanced Planning systems to plan, track and coordinate shipment of materials, API and product

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint strongly preferred

  • Ability to do complex analysis in Microsoft Excel is a must

  • Ability to develop and improve processes based Six Sigma or LEAN methodologies (certification a plus) strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to work under pressure is necessary to be successful in this role

  • Physical Demands / Surroundings – Works in an office setting under desirable conditions with few or no disagreeable features. Duties do not require incumbent to exert physical effort beyond normal office conditions. The individual may be required to enter production support areas. Some domestic and international travel required.

  • Visual Demands - Must be able to read and see clearly. Vision clarity with or without correction to read handwritten as well as computer generated documents.

  • Attendance / Schedule - Attendance requirements are based on general attendance policies and the needs of the business as set forth by direct manager.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
