Description:

Manufacture animal health vaccine active ingredients following defined procedures under USDA Regulations. Perform cell culture scale up utilizing aseptic techniques. Fermentation or Bioreactor System Operator, responsible for preventative maintenance and operation of the Fermentor or Bioreactor System in Industrial Operations. This also includes downstream processing equipment such as sonication, continuous flow centrifuge, and the homogenizer.

Responsibilities:

Production Processes:

  • Adheres to daily production schedule.

  • Performs hands-on processing according to Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Completes required documentation (MR’s, DC’s, batch tickets, etc.) in an accurate, concurrent and timely manner.

  • Maintains facilities and equipment as required by Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Prepares laboratory, equipment and collects necessary supplies required to execute process.

  • Collects and submits in process samples to Quality Control using appropriate process and documentation.

  • Communicates facility and inventory related needs daily.

  • Notifies Supervisor/Manager of need for work orders to repair/maintain equipment.

  • Performs preventative maintenance as required.

  • Learns how to monitor process against manufacturing records, data capture forms and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Learns how to maintain, review, and revise data capture forms and manufacturing records in a timely and accurate fashion.

  • Learns how to monitor process kinetics to ensure consistent results.

  • Reports/provides information on process deviations. Involvement within the containment process for the event.

  • Weekend and Off-Shift Work hours will be required to operate production process.

  • Ensures that training is received and adequate to carry out assigned operations.

  • Train others as assigned/needed.

  • Be a “buddy” to new employees to facilitate their training.

  • Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.

  • Provide feedback at daily shift/performance meetings.

  • Help facilitate the scheduling of teammates to attend dept. or site communication forums.

  • Work in a manner which adheres to cleanroom, HSE, and biosafety practices.

  • Communicate to Supervisor any identified behavior that can lead to an unsafe workplace.

This position may require the handling, storing, and managing of hazardous waste and this employee shall comply with all applicable state and federal laws. This person must successfully complete the hazardous waste management training program within six months of their employment or assignment should this be the case. Such an employee must not work in unsupervised positions until they have successfully completed the hazardous waste management training requirements, and must take part in an annual review in addition to the initial training. This training program includes classroom instruction and on-the-job training to ensure they perform their duties in compliance with the requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act,(RCRA). The Merial hazardous waste management-training program includes all the following elements:

  • All departmental managers and supervisors shall successfully complete training in hazardous waste management, and shall provide hazardous waste management training to his or her department’s personnel. Supervisors and managers will ensure that original documentation of such training shall be placed in the employee file located in the Human Resources Department (HRD) and with a copy of the training documentation submitted to the Health, Safety, and Environmental Department (HSE).

  • The training program includes hazardous waste management procedures, which instructs facility personnel hazardous waste management procedures (including contingency plan implementation) relevant to the positions in which they are employed.

  • At a minimum, the training program is designed to ensure that facility personnel are able to respond effectively to emergencies by familiarizing them with emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and other emergency systems, where applicable.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities:

  • Minimum of High School graduate or equivalent.

  • 6-12 months of related experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology or related field.

  • 1 year of related experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
