Description

The Scientist II is responsible for providing screening laboratory expertise to insure the quality and accuracy of screening processes, to meet Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health’s Discovery needs. The incumbent also contributes to internal screening activities, assessing assay performance and capabilities (variability, throughput, etc.), to identify and implement new screening technologies or approaches based on the needs of the program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute in vitro parasite screening SOPs to minimize cycle time and maximize physiological relevance.

  • Maintain an efficient record of current assay capabilities, including variability, throughput, etc.

  • Contribute into innovative assay development and execute assay implementation in-house.

  • Work closely with the Parasitology leadership and other Scientist within the Screening Parasitology unit to execute and improve workflows for in vitro hit identification and confirmation.

  • Develop strong interpersonal skills to interact with the Parasitology Discovery Team and whole Discovery team to contribute to a thorough biological validation package to support Hit-to-Lead chemistry plan.

  • Contribute to improve screening cascade.

  • Contribute to growing the screening lab team over time and train additional team members.

  • Contributes executing on a daily basis global research project activities within the screening unit and presents data to project teams or screening review teams with chemistry and other R&D Functions or research partners. Activities have to be compliant with legislative expectations of regulatory agencies as well as internal standards of Good Scientific Practice.

Requirements

  • B.Sc from an accredited institution in parasitology, entomology, animal or biological sciences or equivalent qualification

  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience in whole organism or other in vitro screening in a research company or academic institution, working with parasites of pets and ruminants or crop pests

  • Working expertise on whole organism screening methodologies

  • Track record of exact reliable working attitude and meticulous laboratory work execution

  • Developed communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction within the team

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
