Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Co-Op to join our Molecular Parasitology department located at our Athens, Georgia facility. As an Co-Op, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an industry environment to contribute toward molecular indicators of parasite infection, as well as working toward identification of novel antiparasitic targets. Throughout the course of your work, you will have exposure to multiple functions within Research and Development in animal health.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Hands-on laboratory work in molecular biology including but not limited to DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, and qRT-PCR.

  • Isolation of RNA from plasma samples

  • Optimization of qRT-PCR

  • Designing and validating experimental procedures

  • Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and presenting data to laboratory members and/or other functional groups.

  • Willing to work in a cross functional capacity.

Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing.

  • Student must be enrolled at a college or university for the duration of the internship.

  • Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.

  • Major or minor in related field of internship

  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university.

  • Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Hands on experience performing molecular techniques including but not limited to DNA/RNA isolation, primer design, PCR, qRT-PCR, etc.

  • 1 year of laboratory experience.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills (both written and oral).

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

  • Be curious and persistent when solving problems.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

• Must be 18 years of age or older
