Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the In Vivo Pharmacology Group in Cancer Immunology and Immune Modulation Department at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. The Ridgefield campus, along with our sister sites in Texas and California, includes a thriving community of postdocs and PhD students that connects globally with their peers on our European campuses. The main responsibility of this position is to investigate the molecular mechanisms of stromal-derived resistance to T cell targeted immunotherapies to improve anti-tumor efficacy.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be responsible for conducting independent research under the direct guidance of experienced Principal Investigator/s, Senior Mentor and further supported by a team of experts committed to your success. You will interact with a diverse range of individuals (including mentors, fellow researchers, students, and collaborators from various institutions), and help to foster a collaborative research environment that facilitates exchange of knowledge and ideas. Your research will be focused on fundamental scientific questions and new methodologies that align with the goals of the department and contribute to Boehringer-Ingelheim’s innovative and growing pipeline. You will be expected to present your work to internal leadership and, ultimately, publish your findings in leading journals within the field.

Duties & Responsibilities

With support from their advisor and team, the ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Design and conduct their own independent research project(s)

  • Collaborate with other researchers within and outside Boehringer Ingelheim

  • Effectively communicate and defend their own work in the context of team and department goals, both orally and in writing.

  • Publish first-author manuscript(s) and/or patenting of novel technologies/processes.

  • Establish an international reputation in their area of expertise with publications and conference participation at national and international events.

  • Comply with applicable regulations; perform all work in a safe manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in related discipline with no more than three (3) years of Post-Doctoral experience.

  • Strong scientific understanding and broad knowledge of one or more of the following: immunology, oncology, cell biology, and molecular biology.

  • Competent and comfortable with handling and dealing with rodents. Ability to dose therapies and administer cells through various administration routes (Subq, IV, PO, RO, etc)

  • Hands-on experience with in vivo models of inflammation or tumor biology.

  • Excellent cell culture and cellular and molecular biology skills, including experience with relevant cell lines and primary cells (e.g., cancer cells, immune cells and fibroblast cells). Familiarity with genetic modification preferred.

  • Familiarity with relevant in vitro assays (ex: co-culture assays, ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry, and/or immune cell isolation).

  • Experience in stromal and/or matrix biology is a plus

  • Competent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Graph Pad Prism and Power point), analysis of flow cytometry data using Flowjo, and basic understanding of bioinformatics analysis and biological pathways (programming is not required).

  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation in driving cutting-edge research with a strong publication record.

  • Ability to independently conduct a research project and effectively communicate the results.

  • Ability to optimize and develop assays/techniques, as well as leverage new technology opportunities to address scientific questions effectively.
