Job Information

Boehringer Ingelheim Post Doc Process Analytical Technology Solid Dosage Forms in Ingelheim, Germany

The Position

Sound understanding of physical-chemical conditions prevailing during manufacturing of pharmaceutical dosage forms is essential to control quality of the process output and, hence, contributes to safety and efficacy of the drug product. Process Analytical Technology (PAT) is a rapidly evolving toolbox to acquire in-process data for deeper process understanding.

Become part of a team at Boehringer Ingelheim that is involved in scouting and developing dedicated Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) for commercial manufacturing of new products (NCEs). You will be starting by focusing on online monitoring of film-coating processes in tablet manufacturing, e.g., based on near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). In addition, take the opportunity to get to know process related development work in a large pharmaceutical company with an attractive pipeline to qualify for your next career step in this Industry.

The position is set for 2 years.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will evaluate a near infrared (NIR) spectroscopic application for determination of the coating endpoint and coating weight gain in close collaboration with an external supplier and the internal manufacturing facility.

  • Based on lab-scale trials, you will evaluate potential applications of optical coherence tomography (OCT) for control of film-coating processes.

  • You will be collaborating closely with external application specialists and take over the cross-interface coordination of resulting internal activities.

  • Another possible part of your project will be to design and assemble a portable camera application for chemical imaging (CI) based on components available on the market; you will be evaluating potential use cases in solid dosage form manufacturing, e.g., visualizing moisture distribution in intermediates or active ingredient residues on equipment surfaces

  • Moreover, you will work on further upcoming projects in the field of physical chemistry/pharmacy becoming relevant for product launch and life cycle.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physical Chemistry, Physics or Pharmaceutical Technology with a relevant background in physics. Experience in vibrational spectroscopy would be appreciated

  • Scientific mindset with clear focus on application-oriented industrial topics in the field of pharmaceutical production

  • Expertise in Python programming would be a significant plus
